DNS Usage Policy

The free allowance, acceptable use, and how we handle abuse. Last updated: November 2026.

1. What you get

Every domain registered or transferred to Zoophost can be hosted on our authoritative nameservers, ns1.zoophost.com and ns2.zoophost.com, at no extra cost.

Free hosting covers up to 3 zones per organisation that you add yourself in the console. A Managed DNS plan removes that limit. A zone that comes with a domain bought from us does not count towards the 3.

Each zone supports up to 200 DNS records, covering A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, NS, SRV, CAA and PTR. Zones that need more can be discussed with support.

2. Availability

Our DNS runs on our own authoritative servers. It is not a global anycast network, and it is not covered by the hosting availability commitment in our terms of service.

We aim to keep it answering at all times and we monitor it, but free DNS hosting carries no uptime SLA. If a domain's DNS must be available under a contractual guarantee, keep it with a provider that offers one, or talk to us about a supported arrangement.

3. Acceptable use

You may not use our nameservers to publish records for unlawful activity. That includes phishing and credential-harvesting domains, malware distribution, spam or bulk-mail infrastructure, fraud, and content that infringes others' rights.

You may not use our DNS to build reflection or amplification attacks, run fast-flux or domain-generation schemes, or point records at networks you do not control in a way that damages them.

You must have the right to manage a domain before you delegate it to us. Do not add a zone for a domain you do not own or have not been authorised to manage.

4. Enforcement

If we receive a credible abuse report, we may suspend the affected zone, remove specific records, or disable the account while we investigate. Where the situation allows it, we will tell you what we found and what you need to change.

For active phishing, malware or an attack in progress we act first and notify afterwards. For anything less urgent we will normally give you a chance to respond before taking action.

Repeated abuse after a warning can end DNS hosting for the account. Illegal activity is reported to the relevant authorities.

5. Reporting abuse

Report DNS abuse to support@zoophost.com with the domain, the records involved, and what you observed. If you are reporting phishing or malware, include the URL and a screenshot if you have one.

We acknowledge reports during business hours and aim to act on confirmed active abuse within one business day.

6. Records and logs

We keep zone contents so we can serve them, and standard technical logs for security and abuse investigation. We do not sell query data, and we do not use it for advertising.

When you delete a zone we remove it from our nameservers and from the console. Backup and security logs may retain limited traces for the periods described in our privacy policy.

7. Changes

We may update this policy as the service changes. Material changes will be announced on this page and, for existing customers, by email.
